Jordan Goulder, Principal Engineer at Framatome

Solving a customer problem is like running a race. The runner who makes it to the finish line first with the solution wins. In 2018, Framatome’s Jordan Goulder spent a lot of time at the front of the pack.

Jordan – a principal engineer in our non-destructive examination (NDE) services team – developed not just one, but four new and innovative tooling deployments that made a substantial difference for our utility customers. His innovative software solutions include:

  • Developing tooling control software for our innovative pipe scanner that operated flawlessly at U.S. nuclear plant, saving the customer time and personnel dose during their outage.
  • Playing a pivotal role in integrating our steam generator inspection software with our FORERUNNER tube walker manipulator to support steam generator eddy current inspections, even helping our supplier with their issues.
  • Writing a custom predictive analytic algorithm to translate the position information from the Trans World System (TWS) robot to our ultrasonic inspection (UT) acquisition software.
  • Improving baffle bolt mast inspection, both by designing the control program to run this new inspection tool and by creating a custom interface that transformed and automated the acquisition, analysis and reporting of the baffle bolt UT data. This single piece of software improved outage performance and reduced the outage duration by multiple days.

Jordan even goes the extra mile for our industry and community, spending countless hours of personal time mentoring high school students interested in pursuing technical careers. He works with students in Lynchburg, Va., through the Framatome Summer Institute of Technology and Engineering, or SITE, program. He also teaches a variety of software languages to interested STEM students through his involvement with Vector Space, a Lynchburg non-profit makerspace organization.

Jordan was recently recognized as “Engineer of the Year” during National Engineers Week in North America for his impact to our company, our industry and our community.
