The Montreuil-Juigné plant transforms extruded hollows manufactured at the Ugine site using hot extrusion, into longer and thinner tubes through a cold pilgering process. Tubes pilgered on-site are subsequently delivered around the world to plants that manufacture cladding tubes and guide tubes.

Main stages of the fabrication process

The Montreuil-Juigné plant receives blank tubes after their hot extrusion at the Ugine site and ships most of its production to the Paimboeuf plant. The rest of the production goes to the AREVA NP external customers.

Activities of the Montreuil-Juigné plant

The transformation operations performed at the Montreuil-Juigné site include pilgering, chemical and thermal treatments, finishing and control operations. Surface treatments require the use of chemical products including hydrofluoric and nitric acid.

Products manufactured at the Montreuil-Juigné site

Tube Reduce after EXtrusion (TREX): blank tubes in the form of Tube Reduced EXtrusion are used to manufacture cladding tubes and guide tubes, which are the key components of fuel assemblies. The manufacturing fabrication and monitoring processes in place are crucial to achieve the properties required for the finished products’ use in the reactor.
