AREVA Fuel Manufacturing Facility Earns Safety Recognition from U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

AREVA's world-class nuclear fuel manufacturing facility in Richland, Washington

CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 4, 2016 – AREVA Inc.’s fuel manufacturing facility in Richland, Wash., received a favorable result during a recent licensee performance review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

“This positive NRC review recognizes our employees’ daily commitment to the nuclear industry’s high standards of safety and quality,” said Ron Land, senior vice president, U.S. Fuel, AREVA Inc. and Richland site manager. “We are pleased with the outcome and its reflection of our focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.”

The NRC review, which takes place every two years, examined four major categories: Safety Operations, Radiological Controls, Facility Support and Other Areas. This latest review confirmed that during 2014 and 2015 the Richland facility continued to conduct activities safely and securely, while protecting public health and the environment, and the NRC did not identify any areas for improvement.
