EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.

For the Sizewell C project, we are looking to recruit for the role of Nuclear Island Utilities Systems Lead.
The SZC project Nuclear Island Utilities (NIU) team, led by the Senior Architect, is responsible for the delivery in cost, time, and quality of all the engineering services within the NIU scope the of NI SZC project in Edvance. The NIU scope covers the fluid supply and cooling, the fire protection, the ventilations, the effluent treatment, the monitoring systems and support distribution systems located within NI buildings

The key duties, responsibilities and deliverables of the NI Utilities Systems Lead are as follows,

  • Engage with the NI Utilities team members, with the Contract Equipment Leads (CELs) of SZC Equipment branch, the technical departments of ‘Direction Engineering & Supply Chain’ (DESC) of Edvance in Paris and of EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) in Bristol, to ensure the coordination and integration of the activities and production of associated deliverables related to systems within NI Utilities scope
  • Coordinate the systems related activities on NI Utilities scope managed by the technical departments (SCV, CMM, IEI, GCB) and EPR-E (SC)
  • Support the technical departments in the Design Replication Justification process driving the design stability to maximize the replication and next of a kind effect
  • Contribute and/or participate in the building collaborative phase providing systems maturity status within NI buildings part of NI Utilities scope
  • Prepare or support the preparation of input data for systems in interface with CI/BOP scope (CNEPE) e.g. galleries, air/water/gas distribution systems
  • Participate on case-by-case basis to progress meetings with the client on behalf of the Senior Architect
  • Collaborate with the NI Technical Directorate and other NI Senior Architects on systems related activities
  • Manage and ensure appropriate maturity of design for all aspects of the delegated scope, which includes design changes, open points, interfaces, non-conformance report management
  • Ensure the resolution of the delegated technical issues, impacting several systems that cannot be solved at a lower level
  • Support the Data Management ensuring the data quality, supported by the various data owners, and the resolution of data inconsistencies, and associated design impacts

The position operationally reports to the NI Utilities Senior Architect, in Edvance (based in Bristol).

To be considered, the following qualifications, skills and experience are essential:

  • Degree qualified Engineer (in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline)
  • Proven successful experience in Nuclear Engineering, Process and/or System design engineering background
  • Knowledge of EPR design, UK context is a plus
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary teams on large projects is a plus
  • Knowledge of System Engineering principles is a plus

 Skills:

  • Able to take a proactive approach to management and resolution of technical topics,
  • Able to take a strategic view with good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate at all levels,
  • Motivated and disciplined with an ability to work to deadlines and prioritise work across multiple workstreams,
  • Able to write and review technical documents which present complex arguments clearly,
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, able to liaise between multiple stakeholders and maintain a clear overview for specific topics

Languages (level)

  • English fluent (minimum B2)
  • French is a bonus but not essential 

 

Additional information:

The main stakeholders interfacing with the NI Utilities Systems Lead will be:

  • In Edvance SZC project team, the other Senior Architects and their teams, the Senior Equipment Lead and their team, the Technical Director, Deputy and team, the Configuration Manager, The Data and Tools Manager
  • The technical departments in Edvance (DESC) and EPR-E
  • The other entities of EDF/DIPNN contributing to the SZC project (CNEPE, DI, DT, DSPTN)
  • In the client organisation SZC Co, the SZC Programme Manager and his/her Senior Project Manager / Project
  • Manager in charge of NI Utilities scope

Within this team, the SZC NI Utilities Systems Lead provides support to the technical coordination and integration activities within the NI Utilities (NIU) scope. In particular, the Systems lead will provide support to the oversight of the systems activities related to the NI Utilities scope. By support, it is intended that the systems lead will be responsible for the activities delegated by the NI Utilities Senior Architect among the NI Utilities scope
