Overview

As our Senior Commissioning Engineer you will participate in the preparation then the execution of the Commissioning Tests of the Hinkley Point C Power Station. The position will be part of the Commissioning Operational Team, part of the Site Support integrated Team of Edvance Hinkley Point C directorate. The Hinkley Point C Commissioning Programme, which is in charge of the whole Hinkley Point C power station commissioning and testing, decided to perform its duties through the formation of a Commissioning Alliance, formed by several companies including Edvance and other Partners.

Through a secondment to Edvance UK – joint venture with Framatome and EDF – your initial role will be to contribute to the completion of the Hinkley Point C design phase.

Main responsibilities

  • Preparing for the instrumentation installation and commissioning activities on site

  • Providing guidance and support for the instrument calibration activities

  •  Assessing the requirements for spares

  • Working with the installation team to assess the as-built status against the design and against best practice to prepare for handover for commissioning

  • Defining and reviewing commissioning methods and procedures

  • Planning, coordinating, supervising calibration and commissioning activities

  • Supporting mechanical and process disciplines with instrumentation expertise

  • Assessing risks and contributing to mitigations and resolution of issues

  • Leading a team of commissioning engineers and technicians

  • Tracking and reporting status and progress

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Significant knowledge of instrumentation and calibration methods
  • Previous participation to commissioning of large industrial facilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-cultural, multi company team

Desirable:

  • Expert-level theoretical and practical knowledge of process measurement methods, constraints and associated instrumentation devices and standards (e.g. pressure, flow, level, temperature
  • Extensive experience in the practical application of instrumentation in the industrial context, including primary elements, tappings, impulse pipework etc
  • Experience in the commissioning and maintenance of final actuators (e.g. pneumatic, hydraulic, motor operated valves) performing both regulating and isolating functions
  • Interfacing with DCS, PLC and protection systems
  • Experience in the commissioning and maintenance of safety relief valves
  • Understanding of measurement and calibration uncertainty through the entire channel from instrument to display and the ability to specify relevant acceptance criteria
  • Knowledge and experience in calibration methods and standards
  • Experience of site commissioning/operation/maintenance in thermal or nuclear power plant, oil/gas/petrochemical or other heavy industry
