March 12, 2022 – Framatome applauds the Olkiluoto 3 (OL3) EPR nuclear power plant of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO), in achieving over 100MW power generation to Finland’s grid, March 12, 2022, at 12:01 p.m. This significant announcement marks Europe’s first EPR and Finland’s first nuclear power plant in more than 40 years.

“It took perseverance, vigilance and commitment to execute this large industrial project, but the contribution of reliable, round-the-clock, low carbon energy generation for the local communities in Finland is tremendous,” said Bernard Fontana, CEO of Framatome. “We celebrate this significant success and express gratitude to our customers, partners and every team member that contributed to this historic event.”

In accordance with the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety authority’s (STUK) authorization process, TVO will proceed with gradual ramp-up of the OL3 reactor and its electricity power generation to reach full power and commercial commissioning of its Olkiluoto 3 EPR nuclear power plant.

Owned and operated by TVO, OL3 will generate approximately 14 percent of Finland’s safe, and reliable low-carbon electricity. The OL3 EPR is a "Generation III+" nuclear reactor, that benefits from significant technological advances in nuclear and occupational safety. Its design incorporates the operational experience from more than one hundred nuclear reactor projects built by Framatome all around the world.
