March 29, 2021 – Framatome opened its Inspection Academy on March 4 during an inaugural ceremony in St. Marcel, France. Framatome CEO Bernard Fontana, representatives from the EDF Excell program, members of Global International Services Material Inspection Control (GIS-MIC) and Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Metz (ENIM) unveiled the new academy and Quality Assurance (QA) Training Program that will provide advanced training for future inspection professionals in the nuclear energy industry.

“Our new Framatome Inspection Academy strengthens our inspection expertise in collaboration with ENIM and GIS-MIC, leaders in industrial standardization and engineering development,” said Fontana. “These efforts and partnerships align with EDF’s Excell plan and expand our capabilities as we support our customers as they safely and reliably generate low-carbon energy.”

The Framatome Inspection Academy will train EDF Group professionals who are interested in a nuclear safety and technical inspection career. The program includes fundamentals of nuclear regulatory QA inspection and in-depth learning for specific codes and manufacturing processes, such as welding, non-destructive testing, and instrumentation and controls. In addition to theoretical training, trainees will complete more than 300 hours of practical tutoring. A university diploma, issued by ENIM, is awarded after completion of the four-month curriculum.

Framatome’s Saint-Marcel site, located in Saône-et-Loire, France, assembles heavy equipment, such as reactor vessels, steam generators, and pressurizers that compose the primary loop of nuclear reactors. The site is also home to Framatome’s Technical Center, where experts conduct research and development activities to provide reliable, competitive and innovative solutions for the design and manufacture of the key heavy components used in nuclear power plants.
