Hydrogen Control System: mixing, ignition, recombination …
Main description
In the event of a severe accident at a nuclear power plant, metal-water reactions and concrete-corium interactions result in the generation of large quantities of combustible gases, primarily hydrogen and carbon monoxide, within the containment. The uncontrolled deflagration of these combustible gases can lead to significant loads on the containment. Should the integrity of the containment be compromised, it could have catastrophic consequences for both the environment and the population.
To address this concern, Framatome has developed products that facilitate the safe mixing, ignition, and recombination of gases within the containment, effectively reducing the combustible gas concentrations well below the detonation limit.
Furthermore, Framatome is qualified and has the expertise and knowledge to design and supply Hydrogen Control System solutions tailored to various reactor types, including PWR, PHWR, BWR, CANDU and SMR.
