Typical OEM uncoupling tool for Control Element Assembly (CEA) uses water and nitrgen for their hydraulic control unit (the console). Leaks can result in not only delaying fuel offload, but also increased exposure to dose.

Framatome’s Extension Shaft Coupling/Uncoupling tool eliminates the console and thus the need for nitrogen. It also eliminates the need for air hoses, electrical cabling and hydraulic hoses by utilizing a self-contained, proven, onboard electric motor-driven mechanism for uncoupling.
