Reactor Pressure Vessel sealing surface: laser line scanning
Main description
Leak tightness of the primary-side sealing is a major challenge in nuclear services. Even microscopic scratches, temperature fluctuations and corrosion can lead to leaks. Unexpected leaks can lead to unplanned plant shutdown and costly ad-hoc repairs.
Framatome uses remotely operated laser scanning to map both the head groove and RPV flange. The 3D measurement of surface defects allow findings to be evaluated, necessary repairs to be defined and help prevent unplanned shutdown.
