Improved 17×17 Gripper with guide pins retraction system – For PWR reactors

Due to industry challenges, utilities want proven reliability for their 17×17 grippers, meaning no hung fuel assemblies. Operations have been affected by aging refueling systems as well as fuel distortion. A new gripper design prevents dislodging, even from a damaged fuel element. Framatome’s improved 17×17 gripper maintains the exact interface to the inner mast (Gripper Tube Assembly) and envelope as the original gripper. Replacement of the inner mast and the gripper actuation tube is not required. Our Improved gripper has ability to retract the guide pins for extra aid in gripper release.
