Liquid Waste Treatment
Main description
During operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities large quantities of liquid radioactive waste are generated. The management and treatment of liquid nuclear waste involves several stages, including collection, concentration, and conditioning to produce suitable waste packages ready for safe storage, and disposal.
At Framatome we distinguish between the liquid waste treatment, which mainly describes the collection, treatment and conditioning of liquid waste such as spent resins, and waste water treatment. Framatome offers several technologies for spent resins and other liquid waste sources (see also waste water treatment). Depending on the customer's needs, Framatome offers C14 Stripping of spent resins (especially for CANDU reactor systems), chemical treatment of spent resins, solidification (e.g., cementation or geopolymerization) of various waste types and various drying techniques.
Depending on the type of waste, indrum mixing, batch mixing or continuous flow mixing could be suitable technologies for the solidification process.
The drying technique also depends on the drying objective. Depending on this indrum drying, cone drying or rotating drum drying are technologies that can be applied. Framatome´s experienced team will help you find safe, reliable, and fit-for-purpose solutions for your needs.
