Containment venting Systems

Main description

Core melt accidents which lead to a pressure build-up in the containment of a nuclear power plant represent a high danger to the integrity of the containment. The possible release of radioactive fission products can lead to catastrophic consequences for the environment and for the population. For the mitigation of such severe accidents Framatome has developed a Filtered Containment Venting System (FCVS) which safely reduces the pressure in the containment and minimizes the unavoidable releases of activity to the environment to an extent as low as reasonable practical.
