Thread cleaning performance is critical part of primary side outage activities.  Manually operated low-cost tools offer very limited cleaning performance, leaving lubricant and corrosive residue behind.  Furthermore, if the thread holes receive insufficient cleaning, the risk of RPV studs sticking is increased, and repairs can be very expensive.

Framatome’s RPV thread hole cleaning minimizes the risk of RPV thread bolt sticking and consequent repairs. Our solution is combined with integral inspection and automatically-applied uniform lubrication.

Remote operation increases the effectiveness of dry brush cleaning. The manipulator device run on top of the RPV closure head — without using the polar crane.
