Framatome in South Korea

With more than thirty years of presence in South Korea, the relationship between Framatome and the country is built on a long-standing collaboration. Framatome is the original designer and equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the Hanul 1 and 2 pressurized water reactors—two flagship units in the development of the Korean nuclear program.

This local presence supports safety, performance, and innovation within a rapidly evolving nuclear fleet.

Over the years, this presence has expanded around three key pillars:

Proven expertise in plant maintenance

Framatome provides specialized maintenance services such as reactor vessel head penetration replacements or pressurizer nozzle plugging. These high‑level operations are designed to ensure the integrity and performance of critical systems.

Instrumentation & Control (I&C)

Framatome-designed and supplied I&C systems play a crucial role in reactor monitoring, safety, and operation. This expertise, deployed across the entire South Korean fleet, remains a cornerstone of cooperation with KHNP.

Support for long-term operation

Framatome maintains strong involvement in supporting South Korea’s long-term operation programs, particularly for the Hanul 1 and 2 pressurized water reactors, for which it continues to provide its OEM expertise.

As South Korea launches an ambitious life-extension program for ten units, Framatome stands alongside the Korean supply chain to share its international experience across all reactor designs, especially in the United States and Canada.

Framatome also aims to contribute to future projects at the Kori, Hanbit, and Wolsong sites, supported by the establishment of local partnerships.

Framatome places great importance on its historical relationship with KHNP and the Korean supply chain, which has become a major global player in reactor technologies and nuclear export.
